Executive coach, management consultant and facilitator with over 20 years of experience training business professionals. Michael Popowits adapts the extraordinary communication skills of improvisational theater to the business environment to create experiential training programs on management styles, listening, presentation and interview skills, conflict resolution, work/life balance and team leadership. His clients include Xerox, RR Donnelley, Golin/Harris, Phillips Petroleum, Navistar, 3M, and Golin/Harris International.
Michael has 30 years of teaching experience, holding several faculty positions. Since 1988 he has served on faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) business school and in 2013 he was named Director of Student Professional Development for the College of Business Administration. In this role he leads a team that creates curriculum and delivers undergraduate and graduate courses in the college’s program of professional excellence called iLEAD, the Institute for Leadership Excellence and Development. Since 2000, Michael has also been a faculty member of the Second City Training Center, teaching improvisational theater techniques to performers.
Before entering management consulting, Michael worked as an auditor and information systems consultant with Laventhol & Horwath. He is a CPA and a certified practitioner of the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI). He received his business education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Vienna in Austria. He received his theater training in Chicago at the Players Workshop and at The Second City Training Center, and he has worked as an improvisation coach, director, and ensemble performer.
